Microalgae are valuable biomass sources and recently they have been drawing attention and preferred in the production of high value-added products. The use of these photosynthetic and autotrophic organisms for drug applications from their biological active substance content has not yet reached the desired level in our country. Among microalgae species isolated from certain geographies, scans conducted in the literature showed high antioxidant, antibacterial, antifungal, anthelmintic and anticoagulant activities. While microalgae, which have a fairly wide range of taxonomically, can be housed in many different ecosystems, can grow in sweet, salty and brackish water systems, have their potential in various pharmaceutical applications and biological activity studies in our country, studies in this field have still not reached the desired level. For this reason, within the scope of Project INDEPENDENT, bioactive substances screening and candidate molecules characterization studies are being carried out for use in the pharmaceutical sector in microalgae species with high biological activity.
